RITA WANTS OFF
THE ROC

Rita Ora is trying to break out of Roc Nation, filing a lawsuit to terminate her contract.

The U.K. singer, who joined the label in 2008 at the age of 18, was one of the first artists to sign at Roc Nation. Then the company evolved from its record label roots to include management, publishing and a sports agency, which Ora claims diverted attention away from the building of her career.

When her label switched up distribution partners from Sony to Universal in 2013, it left her further in limbo, according to the suit.

Citing California's "seven-year rule" for personal contracts as the exit strategy, Rita's representatives blamed the increasingly diversifying interests at Roc Nation and "a revolving door of executives" as key issues.

“Between Sony’s limited economic return from its orphaned relationship with Roc Nation and Sony’s indirect relationship with Rita, Rita is caught in a political quagmire of dysfunction,” the states the complaint.
