Columbia Nashville’s Maren Morris discusses her move to Nashville four years ago after working in her home state of Texas on the next edition of CBS Sunday Morning.
“I think I was a little fed up with myself,” Morris tells Anthony Mason on the 7/3 broadcast. “And I wanted to make a change. I had never lived anywhere else besides Texas and I just wanted to be a better something.”
Morris, who will grace the cover of the Nashville Spotlight issue of HITS (crossing desks soon) and is interviewed therein, got her start as a songwriter; her co-write “Last Turn Home” was recorded by Tim McGraw within six months of her arrival.
She’s riding high on the hits “My Church” and “80s Mercedes,” the release of her debut album Hero and a tour with Keith Urban. “It’s crazy to think what’s happened in a very short amount of time, even though it feels like forever,” Morris tells Mason.
CBS' morning segments have repeatedly proved needle-movers for new artists, and Morris' style and story are right in the pocket for the show's demo.
