Kesha, T.I., American Authors and other acts have participated in the “Why I Vote” campaign. Each episode focuses on a single subject—LGBTQ rights, mass incarceration, etc.—in an attempt to galvanize first-time voters.
The premiere piece centered on Chicago MC Vic Mensa, who speaks of the community reaction after the death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald in October of 2014. Involved in the neighborhood protests that followed, Mensa change effected by voicing his power in the voting booth in subsequent elections.
