"DESPACITO" SETTING STREAMING RECORDS

Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee’s new “Despacito" (Remix) featuring Justin Bieber has made history as the first Spanish language song to reach #1 on the Spotify Global Chart, and is the platform’s highest charting Spanish record ever.

We pulled out our Rosetta Stone book to learn despacito translates to gently or quietly and this record is anything but that.

The UMLE/RBMG/Def Jam/Republic Records remix rang up more than 25m Spotify streams in less than a week. At YouTube, the song has been declared the site’s #1 Music Debut of 2017 with 76.6m views and counting.

After quickly shooting to #1 on the iTunes songs chart, it has remained in the Top 5 since its release. Already #1 on Spotify’s Viral Global chart, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee are the first Latin act to hit Spotify’s Top 3. And in combining different versions of the song, it has topped 1b on YouTube/VEVO.

Bieber performed the song live for the first time with Fonsi last week at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Puerto Rico.
