WEEZER WINS

Weezer had flown to the top of iTunes' singles chart by Wednesday morning. And it's all thanks to Toto. Yes, the Crush/Atlantic band's subtly ironic cover of 1982 hit "Africa" is making waves, thanks to one fan's request and spirited social campaign.

According to Noisey, the @weezerafrica Twitter account was set up by a 14-year-old named Mary, who lives in Cleveland. She's been tweeting at band members since late last year, originally telling frontman Rivers Cuomo, " @RiversCuomo it's about time you bless the rains down in africa," on 12/6. For months, she urged others to keep the idea—which started as a passive joke—alive. Last week, the band dropped a different Toto cover, "Rosanna," and now, apparently, all is right with the world. That is... until Crush's J.D. and Bob can convince Panic! at the Disco to take a stab at "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)."
