BRITS #LOVEMUSIC

The U.K. music industry has begun a lobbying campaign in support of the Copyright Directive, the proposed legislation that will make platforms such as YouTube liable for uploaded content unless they make “effective and proportionate” efforts to quell copyright infringement.

A new vote in European Parliament to determine its progress is scheduled for 9/12.

Called #Lovemusic, all the major British trade bodies from across the recorded, management, publishing and creator sectors, as well as PROs PRS and PPL, are supporting the campaign.

To recap, the bill was rejected in its current form in July, losing out on moving forward by more than 40 votes. Since then, the debate has been reopened, giving MEPs more time to consider the proposals ahead of a plenary debate in September.

The #Lovemusic message is clear: Some of the digital content platforms aren’t playing fair with artists. They bulldoze through our world and take advantage of out-of-date laws to take what they want to drive their profits. Join us to help keep music safe for the future.
