SHAWN'S BIG WEEKEND IN THE BIG APPLE

Island's Shawn Mendes had one helluva weekend in New York.

On Friday, he released his new single "If I Can't Have You," which earned the Grammy-nominated songwriter plenty of firsts. The track notched a career-best 30m first-day streams globally on Spotify, while hitting #1 at iTunes on release.

At YouTube, the video hit 21m views in its first 24 hours, tripling his previous best first day (7m).

On Saturday Mendes performed the track as the musical guest on the season's highest rated episode of SNL. Adam Sandler hosted the show, and Mendes displayed his acting chops, impersonating Sandler (alongside Jimmy Fallon and Kristen Wiig) in a sketch titled "Sandler Family Reunion."

Meanwhile, "If I Can't Have You" hit #1 in over 45 countries on iTunes, earning #1 worldwide.

As if that wasn't enough, Mendes capped off his extended weekend by making an appearance at the Met Gala on Monday evening.

Solidifying the new track as the biggest debut of his career, Mendes became the third artist in history—joining Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake—to close the Pop panel first week with 184 stations reporting.

Manager Andrew Gertler has plenty to smile about, but for now he's still laughing at his client's Adam Sandler impression. Darcus Beese and Eric Wong, meanwhile, were changing into their Coneheads costumes.
