BLACK MUSIC MONTH:
ONE NATION UNDER A GROOVE

As long as there's been a music business, black music has been a major factor in it. But in the streaming era, black music has become by far the dominant factor. Our forthcoming special issue commemorating Black Music Month will explore the musical and social currents of the last third of the 20th century, which built the foundation for the current boom. In the meantime, check out this video from the National Museum of African American Music, which surveys some highlights of another big year for black music, from the Aretha doc to Lil Nas X's ride. The museum, due to open in early 2020 in Nashville, looks set to blow minds.
