NBC-UNI PIVOTS TO IMMEDIATELY RELEASING FILMS ON-DEMAND

NBC Universal has announced that its current upcoming theatrical releases will be available immediately on-demand upon release day. The new roll out isn't permanent, but a new and temporary option for movie-goers as cinemas across the world have closed during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Movies will be made available for a 48-hour rental period for $19.99 on multiple on-demand platforms. Films currently in theaters, such as Emma, The Outsider and The Invisible Man, will go wide on 3/20.

Upcoming Dreamworks blockbuster Trolls World Tour will be made available on its release date, 4/10, in North America.

The U.S. box office hit a 20-year low over the past weekend, as cinemas in major markets began closing and limited seating.

Just a few days ago, Disney rushed Frozen 2 to its streaming arm Disney+ three weeks ahead of schedule as a reaction to social distancing and self-quarantining.
