WHATEVER LOLLA WANTS

On the occasion of their Lollapalooza performance, Primary Wave-managed AWAL duo Aly & AJ pause for a photo op with one of the Chicago festival’s most popular installations, an extremely lifelike animatronic replica of founder Perry Farrell. “What remains of my organic being is now a brain in a laboratory jar,” intoned the talking statue, “but my astral self is roving the cosmos and transmitting energy pulses that will be released as a limited-edition EP. Now, who wants margatinis?”

Aly & AJ rocked the Lolla crowd with a set that included hot new single “Pretty Places” and a reimagined version of their “Potential Breakup Song” that had fellow buzzing artist Orville Peck bouncing in the wings. Their new cover of The National’s “I Need My Girl,” meanwhile, is making alterna-fans swoon. Manager Jared Rosenberg reports that the duo will set off on a 56-date trek covering North America, the U.K. and Europe in February.
