Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan and electronica producer Rich Machin, who goes by the name Soulsavers, have released Imposter (Columbia). The 12-track album of covers marks the pair's third full-length collaboration.
Recorded live in 2019 with a 10-piece band at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La in Malibu, the set features material by Neil Young, Bob Dylan, PJ Harvey, Charlie Chaplin, Mark Lanegan and more.
Said Gahan of the album, “When you’re taking a song that somebody else has already made magical, if you’re going to cover it as a group of musicians, the most important thing is to find your sound for it. It’s got to be you. Otherwise, you won’t believe it. We made it ours."
