ASCAP BRINGS THE HOLIDAY CHEER
ASCAP is serving up a double dose of holiday cheer with its Top 10 ASCAP New Classic Holiday Songs and Top 25 ASCAP Holiday Songs of 2021, all of which were written or co-written by member songwriters and composers.
Kelly Clarkson takes three spots on New Classic Holiday Songs, with “Underneath the Tree”—written with Greg Kurstin—coming in at #1. Ariana Grande’s “Santa Tell Me,” co-written by Savan Kotecha and Ilya Salmanzadeh, follows at #2 and Justin Bieber’s “Mistletoe,” co-written by Adam Messinger, rounds out the top three tinsel tunes this year.
Meanwhile, time-honored favorites like Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas,” “The Christmas Song”—written by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells—and Meredith Willson’s “It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas"—which celebrate 80, 75 and 70 years of spreading joy, respectively—all appear on the Top 25 ASCAP Holiday Songs.
Other classics, including Johnny Marks’ “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” are also featured in the Top 25, as is José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad” and Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which has become the first holiday song to sell 10m+ copies in the U.S. and be certified diamond.
