MIDEM AXED...
FOR NOW

Music-industry conference Midem, which has taken place in Cannes for 55 years, has canceled its 2022 edition and owner RX France will not organize future events.

Once a staple of the music-industry calendar, Midem was due to return in physical form 6/7-10 after two years as a digital presentation. Even the virtual version has now been axed due to the “lasting pandemic” and following a review of RX France’s activities, according to a statement released today.

The move might not signal the end of Midem completely—RX France is said to be in exclusive advanced discussions with the city of Cannes, which would assume the brand.

A statement from RX France (formerly known as Reed MIDEM) reads: “RX France wants to express its utmost gratitude to the global music community, all its partners and clients for the continuous support they have demonstrated over the years and to its Midem team for its unwavering effort, passion and enthusiasm.”

MBW, which reported the news Tuesday, noted that attendance at Midem’s last physical event, in 2019, was 5k—a significant drop from its glory days in the 1990s and early 2000s when more than 10k delegates made the trip.
