Sony Music Group and GLAAD are partnering to advance LGBTQ+ representation in music and amplify LGBTQ+ voices in the industry.
Initiatives include sponsorship of the 33rd annual GLAAD Media Awards, to be held in Los Angeles on 4/2 and New York 5/6.
Experts from the GLAAD Media Institute will provide LGBTQ+ education sessions to Sony Music Group employees and leadership to build greater awareness of and sensitivity to LGBTQ+ people and the issues they face. GLAAD will also consult with Sony Music throughout the year on campaigns and programs highlighting contemporary LGBTQ+ issues and/or people.
GLAAD and Sony Music Group will also launch a first-of-its-kind, three-part interview series, ICONS, featuring LGBTQ+ musicians, songwriters and producers discussing the history of LGBTQ+ inclusion in music, where we are today and the future of the industry relative to LGBTQ+ concerns.
Said Tiffany R. Warren, Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at Sony Music Group. “We believe in building an industry that is as diverse as the stories our artists and songwriters tell through their music every day. This partnership will provide us with the tools to strengthen our commitment to breaking barriers, shaping culture, championing acceptance and amplifying the voices of the LGBTQ+ community inside and outside our walls.”
GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said, “Sony Music Group continues to be an incredible leader for diversity, equity and inclusion in music, and we’re grateful to partner with it to both amplify diverse LGBTQ+ voices and establish greater pathways to grow LGBTQ+ inclusion in the industry at large.”
