Sony Music Publishing has opened a new office in Lagos, Nigeria, with Godwin Tom serving as its managing director. Tom will report to President, International Guy Henderson.
The move is indicative of SMP's growth in Africa and the general sentiment in the biz that the continent will be a major source of global hits.
Tom previously served as CEO for iManage Africa, where he helped foster the careers of Wizkid, Davido, Waje, MI and Ice Prince, among others. He had hoped that Lagos would be far enough away to escape our notice, so this must be bitterly disappointing.
