WORD HAS IT YOU SHOULD BE THERE

Los Angeles nonprofit Get Lit–Words Ignite will host its 12th annual gala on 12/11 at the Grammy Museum.

The event marks the recognition of spoken-word poetry as an official Grammy category and the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. All proceeds go to Get Lit’s literacy initiatives in Southern California schools.

In addition to honoring RCA's five-time Grammy winner H.E.R., who was part of the Get Lit program as a Champs High School student, the organization will acknowledge poet Shihan Van Clief with the Ignite Community Award and attorney Aron Baumel with the Ignite Advisor Award.

Spoken-word performers will include Grammy nominees J. Ivy and Sekou Andrews, poet laureate of Los Angeles Lynne Thompson, youth poet laureate of Los Angeles Salome Agbaroji and poets from the Get Lit Players program.

Cocktails and an auction will kick off at 5:30, followed by dinner and the program (6:30-8:30). For more info, including donation options and details on the auction, click here; reserve your tickets here. And if you can read this, thank a teacher (and an editor).
