EIGHT NEWBIES ON ROCK HALL BALLOT

Missy Elliott and The White Stripes are on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ballot in their first year of eligibility. Six others are also being considered for the first time.

Sheryl Crow, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Willie Nelson and Warren Zevon—after a decade-plus of pushing by fans—are on the ballot for the first time.

Returning from last year’s ballot are Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine and A Tribe Called Quest. Fellow nominees The Spinners were last on the ballot in 2016, Soundgarden was nominated in 2020 and Iron Maiden a year later.

To be eligible, an artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

“This remarkable list of nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates,” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. “These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps.”

Inductees will be announced in May. The 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place this fall. We’re sure our invitation will again get lost in the mail.
