NIPSEY HUSSLE'S KILLER SENTENCED TO 60 YEARS

Nipsey Hussle's killer, Crips gang member Eric Holder Jr., was sentenced to a minimum of 60 years in prison on Wednesday (2/22). According to the Los Angeles Times, L.A. County Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke sentenced Holder to 25 years to life for the murder, plus an additional 25 years to life in a sentencing enhancement because Holder used a gun. He must serve an additional 10 years for shooting two other men who were with Hussle when he was killed.

A beloved community figure and Grammy-nominated rapper, Hussle was fatally shot on 3/31/19 outside his Marathon Clothing Store in the Crenshaw District of South Los Angeles.

"Our community right now, we lost everything," the late rapper's close friend Herman "Cowboy" Douglas said during the sentencing hearing. "Everything we worked for… Thousands of jobs we don’t have no more. Homies don’t have nothing to do. They backsliding; they robbing people now. All our stores are closed down. The whole community relied on Nip.”

Holder's attorney, Aaron Jansen, argued for a lighter sentence, saying, “I want the court to consider what his life is going to be like in state prison. It’s going to be brutal. It’s going to be short. He’s already received numerous death threats. He’s been beaten up [Jansen was viciously assault in June]. He’s been isolated. When the sheriffs can, they isolate him, not just in a one-man cell; we’re talking about whenever he leaves his cell they have to lock down the whole floor so that no one could get to him."

Jacke was unmoved.

Holder went on the run immediately after the shooting but was arrested three days later. He's been behind bars since April 2019.
