RECORDING ACADEMY CONTINUES TO #AMPLIFYWOMEN

The Recording Academy is celebrating Women's History Month by continuing its commitment to making the music industry a more inclusive and equitable space for women. The organization has added 1,913 women to its voting membership over the last few years and reached 77% of its goal of adding 2,500 women voting members by 2025. Nearly half of the nominees for the 65th Grammys were women. Since implementing a community-driven, peer-reviewed membership-application model in 2019, the number of women members has increased 19%.

Thanks to the Academy's 2022 Women in the Mix study, meanwhile, the music industry has been armed with the data necessary to accelerate progress and much-needed reforms.

The org is also maintaining its support of several women-led entities that received $10k Women in the Mix grants last year, including Beatz by Girlz, Femme It Forward, Girls Make Beats, She Is the Music and Women’s Audio Mission. The recipients of 2023's grants will be announced in the coming weeks.

While the Recording Academy applauds the progress that's been made, it recognizes that there's still more work to do, affirming that women must be "heard, seen and amplified across genres, professions and backgrounds 365 days a year." It's encouraging everyone to use the #AmplifyWomen hashtag on social media, and a plethora of content can be found on the Grammy microsite propelling the #AmplifyWomen initiative forward, including "10 Ways To Support Women Musicians & Creators Year-Round" and "10 Artists Who Have Stood Up for Women in Music: Taylor Swift, Lizzo & More."

A playlist of songs by women artists curated by the Academy via Spotify is available below. Hopefully, somewhere, the notorious RBG is banging her gavel and smiling.
