DAFT PUNK ACCESSES RANDOM MEMORIES

Daft PunkThomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo—has dropped the first song from the 10th anniversary edition of Random Access Memories (Columbia), notable for, among other things, the quadruple-platinum, Pharrell Williams-vocalized single "Get Lucky." Titled “Writing of Fragments of Time," the track was created at L.A.’s Henson Recording Studios with longtime collaborator Todd Edwards.

An updated version of the original album's "Fragments of Time," the song was edited by Daft Punk sound engineer Florian Legatta. "Writing Of" incorporates discussions between Bangalter and Edwards, making it a "documentary" track in the spirit of the Random Access Memory cut “Giorgio by Moroder.”

The lyrics—which include, “And it's crystal clear that I don't ever want it to end/ If I had my way, I would never leave/ Keep building these random memories/ Turning our days into melodies”—come from the perspective of Daft Punk’s future selves. Coupled with the Cédric Hervet-directed video, the song captures the French pair's creative process.

The Random Access Memories 10th Anniversary Edition boasts 35 minutes of previously unreleased music on nine tracks. It arrives on 5/12 in three-LP, two-CD, streaming and download configurations. Pre-orders are available here. Meanwhile, we remain unconvinced that Bangalter and Homem-Christo aren’t actual robots.
