DEF JAM CROWNS LADY LONDON

Lady London has landed at High Standardz/Def Jam Recordings. The New York rapper was welcomed to the iconic label by Def Jam Chairman/CEO Tunji Balogun, who said, “There are artists who challenge you to disregard everything you know and just follow them into the future. Lady London is one of those artists. She’s a force on the microphone, a savvy visionary and just the kind of star we need right now.”

Raised in The Bronx and East Orange, New Jersey, Lady London fell in love with hip-hop and R&B early on. Armed with a BS from Howard University and a Master’s degree from USC, she decided to forego medical school in favor of her musical ambitions. Over the years, she steadily built a following online, posting viral videos of her poetry and later, her freestyle series “Lady Londays.” Busta Rhymes, Cardi B, Lupe Fiasco, Timbaland and Nas were among the many notable names to take notice.

“Since the beginning, High Standardz has been cultivating an environment in which a certain caliber of artist can find a creative home for expression and growth,” said High Standardz founder/CEO Jeremy “J Dot” Jones. “Lady London personifies everything we’re about here, from her unique approach to crafting epic music and how she’s built a massive community of engaged and loyal fans to the intelligence and elegance with which she carries herself."

We, on the other hand, continue to resemble a tatterdemalion. Seen in the photo lamenting our existence are (l-r) Balogun, London and Jones.
