REFUGEES TURN TO PETTY CLASSIC TO SHARE PLIGHT

The Miraculous Love Kids, refugees from Afghanistan’s only school of music for girls and young women, have recorded Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” to raise awareness of the mission to find permanent homes for the displaced. The Kids, who now reside in Pakistan, reeled in some big names to help them.

Blake Shelton, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit and Matt Sorum take the lead on the Petty classic, with the school’s founder and director, Lanny Cordola, leading a guitar army and choir.

The Tom Petty estate shared the corresponding music video on the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Facebook page, calling it “a beautiful tribute.”

“The girls and I are honored to have Blake, Joe, Timothy and Matt join us in spreading this message far and wide,” said Cordola. “Hopefully their involvement will bring more awareness about Afghan refugees like the girls and their quest for a better life.”
