R&RHOF RUNS UP THAT HILL

After appearing on multiple ballots, Kate Bush (with a big lift from Stranger Things), Rage Against the Machine and The Spinners will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Missy Elliott is the first female rapper voted into the Rock Hall—and she’s being inducted in her first year of eligibility. She’ll join three other performers making the class of ’23 the first time their names appeared on the ballot: Sheryl Crow, George Michael and Willie Nelson—putting an exclamation point on his 90th birthday celebration.

Rage Against the Machine—Zack de la Rocha, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk—get in on their fifth ballot. The Spinners—Philippé Wynne, Henry Fambrough, Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson and Bobbie Smith—gain admittance on their fourth nomination. Bush was also a four-time nominee.

The Musical Influence Award will go to hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc and ’50s guitar hero Link Wray; Chaka Khan, Al Kooper and Bernie Taupin will receive the Musical Excellence Award; and the Ahmet Ertegun Award will go to late Soul Train kingpin Don Cornelius.

“This year’s incredible group of inductees reflects the diverse artists and sounds that define rock & roll,” said Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation Chairman John Sykes. “We are honored that this November’s induction ceremony in New York will coincide with two milestones in music culture: the 90th birthday of Willie Nelson and the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop.”

The nominees who didn’t make the final cut include first-timers The White Stripes, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper and in-house-rooting favorite Warren Zevon. A Tribe Called Quest, Soundgarden and Iron Maiden were also on the ballot.

The 38th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place 11/3 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
