This handsome photo op was orchestrated to celebrate the inking of breakout jazz artist Laufey to Warner Chappell, providing an occasion for pubco CEO Guy Moot to perform his approving quote in scat form. Seen just before leaving the bandstand for the duration of the drum solo are (l-r) WCM’s Gabz Landman, Laufey, Moot and Foundations Artist Management’s Max Gredinger.
Laufey, whose sophomore set, Bewitched, is due via AWAL on 9/8, has the most-streamed jazz song in the world with the aforementioned album’s “From the Start,” which is now getting big playlist love at Spotify and has entered the DSP's U.S. Top 30. Her fall tour will include a Kennedy Center look with the National Symphony Orchestra (on 9/8) and a Ford Amphitheatre appearance (9/16) with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
A quote issued jointly by WCM VP A&R Landman and VP/Head of A&R, Australia David Goldsen praised the jazz innovator’s “innate musicality, lyrical ingenuity, deep relationship with her fans and world-class live show,” while WCM President Ryan Press noted, “She’s exposing a whole new generation of fans to jazz and classical music.”
“Gabz, David, Ryan, Guy, [COO] Carianne [Marshall] and the rest of the team at Warner Chappell have been fervent songwriter advocates for years,” reads a quote from the L.A.-based, Icelandic-Chinese composer-performer, “and I'm elated to call the company my new publishing partner.”
