The National Museum of African American Music has announced H. Beecher Hicks, III is stepping down as president and executive director, and former NMAAM COO, Dion Brown has been named as the new executive director for the Nashville-based museum dedicated to preserving musical genres created and influenced by African Americans.
Brown previously served as president and COO of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, founding executive director of the National Blues Museum and executive director of the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center.
“This has been an incredible ride,” said Hicks. “I took on this role as a two-year commitment, and a decade later, it is unbelievable how far we’ve come. NMAAM showcases African American music, culture and history in a way that is not only important to Nashville but resonates around the world."
Stay tuned for more NMAAM news shortly. Now if you'll excuse us, it's become hot enough for us to fill the bathtub with frozen lemonade.
