PUBLIC ENEMY & ICE-T TAKE ON D.C.: UPDATE

UPDATE: "The National Celebration of Hip-Hop," originally scheduled to take place 10/6-7 at Washington, D.C.'s West Potamac Park, has been moved to Nationals Park and a new date of 10/28. The decision to relocate the event was made in response to the uncertainty surrounding a potential government shutdown on 10/1, which could affect the National Mall and West Potomac Park.

Public Enemy and Ice-T are still expected to co-headline the event with additional performances by Kurtis Blow, Kid 'n Play, Soulsonic Force, Roxanne Shanté, CL Smooth, The Sugarhill Gang, MC Sha-Rock and Positive K.

Former Beastie Boys turntablist DJ Hurricane will also be on the 1s and 2s for a special tribute to the legendary hip-hop trio. Admission is free. Find more details here while we revel in the fact there's an event we can finally afford.

“Hip-hop is beyond—not just a musical genre," said Chuck D. "It's a cultural movement that has dominated art, fashion, politics, poetry, academia, film and every corner of the world for the past 50 years. This National Celebration brings it all together in one place for the people, by the people." Chuck D for president anyone?

Would-be attendees of "The National Celebration of Hip Hop" must register beginning 8/23 at 10am ET to secure a ticket, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, click here.
