UMPG, DYLAN CENTER SEEK SONGWRITERS

In 1974, Bob Dylan wonders if he can end every verse with "jack of hearts" and prevent it from rhyming with anything else.

Universal Music Publishing Group is partnering with the Bob Dylan Center to launch the Bob Dylan Center Songwriter Fellowship to mentor and develop aspiring songwriters.

Two recipients will be chosen annually to receive a $40k project stipend, public engagement and presentation opportunities, dedicated time in the BDC’s Bob Dylan Archive, roundtrip airfare to Tulsa and accommodations, mentorship by UMPG songwriters and executives and recording time in The Church Studio, Leon Russell's famous local facility.

In addition to being reviewed by BDC and UMPG executives, annual fellowship recipients will be selected by a global panel of artists including Patty Griffin, John Mellencamp, Nas, Juliette Armanet and Carla Morrison.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity to connect developing talent with the works of one of the greatest songwriters of all time,” said UMPG CEO Marc Cimino. “Beyond access to meaningful mentorship and special resources, the archives at the Bob Dylan Center are indescribable. I can only imagine how much creative inspiration they will draw. With the support of the fantastic BDC team and panel of world-class artists, we look forward to developing a new group of songwriters in this unique environment.”

To be eligible, entrants must be 18 or older and not be signed to a publishing agreement. Registration to take a trip upon a magic swirlin’ ship is open through 10/18. The fellowship starts 5/1.
