ALFRED KIM GUGGENHEIM, 1946-2023

Entertainment attorney, Alfred Kim Guggenheim, passed away on August 23, 2023 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 77.

Kim worked for over 30 years as an attorney in the Music Industry. He was universally loved and respected by his clients and the industry at large. His specialties were transactional matters, contracts, negotiation, and management matters. He was also a contributing author and a lecturer on entertainment industry issues, including having appeared on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather as a copyright expert.

Over the course of his career, he represented musicians as well as managers, including Al Jarreau, Stanley Clarke, Smash Mouth, Digital Underground, the estate of Jimmy Durante, June Pointer of the Pointer Sisters, Arion Salazar of Third Eye Blind, and many others. He was also a past President of the California Copyright Conference, and a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS, now known as The Recording Academy).

Kim was born on July 27, 1946 in Santa Monica, California, and attended Beverly Hills High School. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Pomona College (Magna Cum Laude) and Harvard Law School (Cum Laude).

At the time of his retirement, Kim was of counsel with Hamburg, Karic, Edwards and Martin. Previously, he had been a founding member or named partner of Nelson Guggenheim Felker & Levine, Nelson Sheehan Del Tondo & Guggenheim, Schubert Glassman Swartzberg & Guggenheim, and Schlesinger & Guggenheim, with his mentor and close friend Al Schlesinger, in addition to affiliations with Hall Dickler Kent Goldstein & Wood, Schlesinger Hirschman & Dave, and Buchalter Nemer Fields & Younger.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, their two adult sons Danny and Aaron, and four grandchildren.
