SOUNDEXCHANGE TO THROW DOWN WITH NYC, L.A. ANNIVERSARY BASHES
SoundExchange will celebrate its 20th anniversary with private showcases on 10/10 at NYC club Baby’s All Right and 10/17 at Los Angeles’ Sun Rose.
The New York show will feature performances by Blu DeTiger, Wé Ani and Atlanta-reared rapper KeithCharles, while L.A. will be treated to sets by former Best Coast principal Bethany Cosentino and alt-pop act Sam Austins. We also expect SX boss Michael Huppe to bust out his bongos at some point.
Vocalist-bassist DeTiger has been on the New York scene for several years; she made her Saturday Night Live debut in January 2022 while playing bass for Jack Antonoff and Bleachers. Meanwhile, jazz vocalist-songwriter Wé Ani and Austins are both among SoundExchange’s next Breakthrough Beats artists. The program aims to amplify rising acts through events, digital content and promotion via SoundExchange channels.

As you know, SoundExchange—among its other duties—collects digital performance royalties from DSPs. In 2022 the org corralled more than $1b in digital royalties from more than 3,600 streaming platforms and distributed them to 600k+ creators and rights holders. To date, the nonprofit has distributed more than $10b. SX is the sole organization designated by the U.S. government to administer the Section 114 sound recording license, which we imagine most of you can recite from memory.
