A HIP HIP-HOP YA DON'T STOP

The Grammy Museum's latest undertaking, "Hip-Hop America: The Mixtape Exhibit," opens in L.A. on Saturday (10/7).

Sponsored by Google Pixel, the 5,000-square-foot installation offers exhibits on rap music, dance, graffiti, fashion, business, activism and history. An array of artifacts—including The Notorious B.I.G.’s red leather pea jacket and LL COOL J’s red Kangol bucket hat—will also be on display alongside newly announced ephemera from Lil Wayne and Saweetie.

The public unveiling will be preceded by an event on Friday (10/6), beginning at 8pm PT, for people not employed by HITS. Further details are available here.

The show, which will run through September 2024, is supplemented by panels featuring such esteemed guests as journalist Nelson George, Rap City hosts, Afro Cuban rapper Mellow Man and hip-hop artist/Love Your Amazing Self author Ofosu Jones-Quartey.

From now until June, the Grammy Museum will also host hip-hop education workshops at the Clive Davis Theater for students interested in learning about the culture's roots.
