THE ORB, DAVID GILMOUR VENTURE INTO AI

The electronic-music duo The Orb and David Gilmour are opening the AI door and letting fans enter. Starting today, fans can create their own AI track with remixes from Metallic Spheres in Colour.

Visitors to the Metallic Spheres website can follow a series of prompts indicating the emotion they want the album’s artwork to convey and select mood and tempo preferences for the available audio. Using artificial intelligence, the site then generates a new version for playback. Fans can share links to their creations and their reimagined album covers on social media.

The opportunity to purchase full-length remixes as downloads will arrive in the coming weeks. Moreover, select fan "remixes" of the Metallic Spheres in Colour cover image, based on the original by artist Simon Ghahary, may be included in an upcoming video supporting the album.

It’s all being handled by Sony Music Entertainment and Legacy Recordings.

In case you missed it, The Orb and the Pink Floyd guitarist released Metallic Spheres way back in 2010. In September, Orb founder Alex Paterson, his writing partner, Michael Rendall, and producer Youth remixed the album, releasing it as Metallic Spheres in Colour.

Overseeing the AI is Vermillio, a generative AI platform that uses Authenticated AI to allow creators to protect their work.
