Sir Elton John joined the elite club of EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) winners Monday night (1/15) after landing an Emmy in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category for 2022's Disney+ outing Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.
Having won two Academy Awards for Best Original Song—for Rocketman’s (“I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” and The Lion King’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”—a Tony for Best Original Score for Aida and six Grammys, he's now one of just 19 EGOT recipients.
"I'm incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight," John said in a statement. "The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world. Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy they bring to all our lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career. I am incredibly grateful.” Sir Elton was unable to attend the ceremony due to a recent knee injury.
Leading with six wins each were FX's The Bear, named Outstanding Comedy Series, and HBO's Succession, the Outstanding Drama Series. Netflix's Beef, starring Ali Wong, won five, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver won two and The Daily Show With Trevor Noah won Outstanding Talk Series for the first time. The full list of winners appears here as we're once again reminded what giant losers we are.
Produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment, the 75th Emmy Awards took place at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles four months after they were initially scheduled.
