SCORSESE, ROBERTSON HONORED BY SOCIETY OF COMPOSERS AND LYRICISTS

Martin Scorsese and the late Robbie Robertson will receive the Spirit of Collaboration award 2/13 from the Society of Composers and Lyricists at its fifth annual SCL Awards. Hosted by Grammy-winning songwriter Siedah Garrett, the event will be held at Los Angeles' Skirball Center.

Scorsese and Robertson, the latter of who died last year at the age of 80, worked together on numerous acclaimed films, including Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), The Irishman (2019), The Wolf of Wall Street (2013), Raging Bull (1980) and, of course, The Last Waltz (1978). Previous Spirit of Collaboration recipients include Justin Hurwitz and Damien Chazelle (La La Land) Thomas Newman and Sam Mendes (American Beauty), Terence Blanchard and Spike Lee (BlacKkKlansman) and Carter Burwell and The Coen Brothers (No Country for Old Men).

Robertson's work on Killers of the Flower Moon will compete for the SCL Awards' Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film against Saltburn, The Boy and the Heron, Oppenheimer and American Fiction. Click here for the full list of nominees.

The Band frontman, he of the gloriously stinging guitar tone, the man who wrote "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek," has also been nominated for a 2024 Academy Award for Best Original Score for Flower Moon alongside Ludwig Göransson (Oppenheimer), Jerskin Fendrix (Poor Things), Laura Karpman (American Fiction) and good ol' John Williams (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny).
