JUBELIRER RESIGNS AS CAPITOL CHAIR/CEO

Michelle Jubelirer has resigned as chair and CEO of Capitol Music Group after two-plus years at the helm and 11 at the company.

The announcement was made Tuesday (2/6) by UMG topper Lucian Grainge and follows word last week of a major UMG reorganization, to be led by Monte Lipman and John Janick. Further news on that front is expected in the coming days.

"Having joined Capitol shortly after its acquisition by UMG in 2012, I've been honored to be a leader in rebuilding and guiding a company that has played such a storied role in popular culture for more than 80 years," Jubelirer said. "I thank my senior management team and everyone who's worked with me at Capitol Music Group for their tireless work ethic, unwavering commitment to our artists and absolute passion for music. Most of all, I'd like to thank all of our incredible artists. You made me want to rise up each and every day to help you achieve your dreams and present your music to the world."

Among Jubelirer's successes were Sam Smith and Kim Petras' 2022 Grammy-winning smash "Unholy," currently at 1.4b global streams on Spotify; the ascent of Grammy Best New Artist nominee Ice Spice; and streaming sensations Toosii and Doechii. CMG is also home to the labels Astralwerks, Blue Note, Capitol Christian Music Group, Motown, Priority and Quality Control Music.

"Having been at this company for 10 years and knowing what we had been doing right and what we had been doing wrong, a lot of my focus has been about ensuring that there was stability—keeping and elevating the right team members and bringing in new and innovative people," she told HITS in a May 2023 interview.

Prior to joining Capitol, Jubelirer was an attorney at Sony Music and later at King, Holmes, Paterno & Berliner, where she represented such clients as Frank Ocean, Pharrell Williams and M.I.A.

"We will miss Michelle," said Grainge. "She's been part of Universal's leadership for more than a decade, most recently as the extraordinary chair and CEO of Capitol Music Group, which remains firmly set on a course toward long-term success. As we proceed to centralize many of CMG's label functions with those of Interscope Geffen A&M, we respect her decision to pursue other endeavors and wish her all the best."
