SPOTIFY LAUNCHES "CLASSICS" CATALOG PROGRAM

Spotify CLASSICS, the streamery's first catalog program, highlights 30 significant albums of the streaming era. Each hub (currently available in North America) showcases standouts released between 2015, when streaming began in earnest, and the present day.

For the initial iteration, the editorial team selected 30 influential hip-hop and R&B albums from the past nine years, including Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly, Beyoncé's Lemonade, JAY-Z's 4:44 and Tyler, The Creator's CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.

A Spotify Classic is "100% qualitative," according to the streamery; each album's replay value outweighs any success it had on the charts.

Spotify chose 2015 as the start of the streaming era because it was the year that music streaming eclipsed digital downloads, marking a shift in the musical landscape in terms of album rollouts and chart performance.

Other selections include Anderson .Paak's Malibu, Travis Scott's ASTROWORLD and Solange's A Seat at the Table. Find the full list here and watch the YouTube trailer below, while we're reminded of our utter lack of value.
