BMAC HONORS MUMU FRESH WITH MUSIC MAKER GRANT

The Black Music Action Coalition teamed up with Hyundai on 2/27 to reward Mumu Fresh with the BMAC Music Maker Grant at a Black History Month event in New York. The $5,000 award is dedicated to empowering Black artists, organizations and leaders.

"Unlike the other recipients of our Music Maker Grants, Mumu Fresh was chosen because she's not only using her platform to speak truth to power; she's on a mission, teaching other creatives how to use their gifts for social impact," BMAC CEO/co-founder Willie "Prophet" Stiggers tells HITS. "And instead of the traditional yearlong mentorship associated with this award, BMAC will spend the next 12 months helping amplify her voice and that of her movement."

Fresh earned a Grammy nomination for her vocal contribution to the Roots' 2007 “Don’t Feel Right.” More recently, she appeared on Tech N9ne's ASIN9NE alongside Lil Wayne on the song "Too Good." Her next project, The Healing, arrives on 4/19.
