UMP CHINA AND STIM CAMP IN BEIJING
7/12/21

UMP China and global nonprofit She Is The Music (STIM) recently joined together to launch an all-women songwriting camp in Beijing.

Held during June, the camp—entitled Untagged 2021—hosted nearly 30 women musicians across nine countries and regions. It also marked STIM’s first songwriting camp in Asia.

Among the camp’s songwriters were Lona Chen, Chiyo, Cindy Yen, Shaolu Li, Zoe Yu and Akini Jing as well as virtual participants from the U.S., Mexico, South Korea, Malaysia and Australia. Additionally, Golden Melody Award-winning recording engineer Hanwen Ni from Studio 21A supported the camp.

As part of an ongoing series that will include a variety of writers, Untagged 2021 is one of many initiatives launched under UMPG’s global creative strategy to support songwriters.

“An innovative new effort out of UMP China, Untagged songwriting camps reinforce the truth that great music can come from anyone, anywhere,” said Joe Fang, Managing Director of UMP China and Hong Kong. “It is such a great pleasure working with the pioneer in this field, She Is The Music, and together bringing this initiative into Asia.”

“SITM is honored to have partnered with UMP China on their first female-focused “Untagged Songwriting” camp. With so much creativity and talent in China’s music market, this is an outstanding initiative that shines a light on deserving women,” added Michelle Arkuski, Executive Director of SITM.

Co-founded in 2018 by Alicia Keys, UMPG Chairman/CEO Jody Gerson, Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Ann Mincieli and Co-Head of UTA Music Sam Kirby Yoh, STIM is an independent organization that promotes equality, inclusivity and opportunity for women in music. Other Board Directors include USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative Founder, Dr. Stacy Smith, and co-Founder/CEO of Lionfish Entertainment, Rebeca Leon.
