SMP'S SUMMER IN SWEDEN
8/9/23

Sony Music Publishing hosted the inaugural “SMP x BeatStars Hitmaker Week,” an international songwriting camp held in Stockholm, Sweden at the House of Creatives, earlier this summer—and now, there are pictures to prove it. The camp, which marked the three-year milestone of SMP’s partnership with BeatStars, showcased the global, collaborative nature of songwriting and beatmaking today, bringing together 27 BeatStars Publishing hitmakers from 10 different countries and 16 artists from across the globe.

Held in June, the four-day event boasted 40 sessions and several curated workshops. As a sponsoring partner, TikTok hosted a day of sessions as part of their #BehindTheSong initiative, which celebrates songwriters and supports their creative achievements. BMI also hosted a workshop on the importance of royalty collection and copyright protection in the international market, while Musikförläggarna provided resources and support for the camp.

The SMP x BeatStars Hitmaker Week also coincided with the Lollapalooza Stockholm festival, where attendees had the opportunity to work with festival artists and attend performances.

“We’re grateful to mark three years of partnership with BeatStars and expand our work with BeatStars Publishing with our Inaugural Hitmaker Week, which has led to great new songs and lasting relationships, SMP Director, Creative A&R Will Skalmoski said. “Thank you to TikTok, BMI and Musikförläggarna for your support, and to SMP’s International A&R teams for bringing this event to life. We look forward to many more Hitmaker weeks in the future.”

SMP’s Creative teams collaborated across numerous global territories to launch the event, including Sweden (Khadra Abdirashid, Leroy Joweihan), the U.K. (Nasra Artan, Josephine Atie), the U.S. (Skalmoski, Simone Dixon, Corey McAfee), Italy (Alberto Grimaldi) and Germany (Marvin Lutz).
