HAELOS SHINE BRIGHT
1/26/16

Last night, I was straight-up snake-charmed. Why, you might ask? HAELOS. That's why.

The three-piece of Londoners (Arthur Delaney, Dom Goldsmith and Lotti Benardout), who've been signed to Matador for about a year now, played their inaugural L.A. show at Bardot's School Night—the event renowned for making solid buzzband discoveries.

Their name has been hovering about the blogosphere since first single, "Dust," dropped in October of 2014, and it seems like they've taken quite some time to get off and running, but you know what they say; patience is a virtue. It's pretty clear to me that their collective imagination has been simmering in a slow-cooker, letting their melodies become warm, full of flavor and bursting with juicy goodness. That's what HAELOS does; whether it be with their creative process or with their multi-layered recordings, they get you salivating.

With a sound that draws comparisons to Portishead, The xx, London Grammar, Massive Attack and Phantogram, they’ve clearly channeled something simultaneously spectral and sparkly. On their Facebook page, the genre is listed as “Dark Euphoria.” That pretty much sums it up.

"It's the music you put on after the club," Benardout shared. "You can still feel that energy and euphoria, but it might bring you back to reflect on certain moments or memories."

The group—who inked a management deal with Coran Capshaw’s Red Light in the Fall—have announced that their debut full-length Full Circle is due 3/18. And last night, they entranced with six songs, five of which can be seen on the tracklisting for the upcoming set (presented below).

They’re currently playing select North American dates and are confirmed for SXSW and Coachella. I think it’s safe to say that 2016 will be HAELOS' big year.

xx,
Samantha Hissong
