WHAT IT IS: Canadian quartet Valley found viral success thanks to their effervescent pop and melodic hooks. Consisting of Rob Laska, Mickey Brandolino, Alex Dimauro and Karah James, the band was initially inked with UMG Canada and recently landed a deal with Capitol. Valley’s nostalgically sweet single, “Like 1999,” their first release of 2021, follows their smash EP, sucks to see you doing better, which yielded “nevermind” and “hiccup”; the latter generated 200k streams in its first 48 hours of release. With only two other self-written, self-produced debut releases under their belt, the band earned a 2020 Juno Award nomination for the album Maybe.
