Quantcast

iTunes

DOWNLOAD THIS: We'll of course be tracking Grammy spikes at iTunes during and after the telecast. Meanwhile, a few inferences can already be drawn from the latest leaderboard. One (which we've made before, but bears repeating) is that Beats-related advertising is a potent thing; Aloe Blacc and Pharrell have both rocketed up the singles Top 10 thanks to headphones spots. We look forward to seeing if Grammy-show Beats Music ads similarly, albeit ironically, inspire downloads. Another is that singer Cecile McLorin Salvant, nominated in the jazz vocalist category, is hitting a nerve; her vintage style is instantly appealing and resonates strongly with both throwback-hipster culture and older traditionalists. How will Grammy-night performances and/or wins alter the chart? Either way, it's reasonable to expect Lorde, Beyoncé and Katy to continue dominating. (1/24p)
