Vampire Weekend vinyl

MOVING THE NEEDLE: When do we get excited about album sales in the 10k range? When they're sales of vinyl. Having scored a #1 bow with their Modern Vampires of the City, XL's Vampire Weekend will overtake Fleet Foxes for the best debut on vinyl in the "modern era" (construed here as the age of digital sales) with 9.7k; the Foxes sold 8.9k LPs of their 2011 set Helplessness Blues. And VW will hold onto the "record record" for at least a week, when Columbia's Daft Punk, which has already amassed vinyl preorders in excess of 10k, takes over the wheels of steel with Random Access Memories.
