Grohl Inks for Publishing Deal with Kobalt

KOBALT INKS GROHL: Foo Fighters founder and fledgling filmmaker Dave Grohl has inked an exclusive, worldwide publishing administration deal with Kobalt, which will begin providing worldwide creative and synch services, according to CEO and Founder Willard Ahdritz. That includes Grohl’s original songs from his documentary Sound City– Reel to Reel, which debuted at Sundance last week. Set for release in March, the album is a collection of music created by Grohl and a cast of musical legends for the film about the now-shuttered Van Nuys recording studio where Nirvana recorded Nevermind. The first single, “Cut Me Some Slack,” was performed by Grohl with Paul McCartney and Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear. The recording also features Stevie Nicks, Trent Reznor, Rick Springfield, Rage Against the Machine’s Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, Josh Homme, Rick Nielsen, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and fellow Foos Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel and Chris Shiflett, among others. In 2014 Kobalt will begin representation of the entire Grohl repertoire, including his work with the Foo Fighters and supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. (1/22p)
