Tribeca Fest screens music-themed movies

MUSIC TO MOVIES: The Union, Cameron Crowe's feature documentary on the making of Elton John and Leon Russell’s T Bone Burnett-produced 2010 album of the same name, will open the Tribeca Film Festival tonight. The free, outdoor showing will be followed by a live performance by John. "As a longtime fan of both artists, it was a pleasure to spend a year filming their collaboration," said Crowe. "We can't wait to show it to one of the greatest audiences in the world, the Tribeca Film Festival." The Union is one of numerous music-themed movies to screen during the fest. The schedule also includes rock docs Talihina Sky, about Kings of Leon’s early days; God Bless Ozzy Osbourne; The Swell Season, about the duo and onetime couple; and Limelight, a look back at the notorious New York club). Also being shown are scripted films Roadie, about a member of Blue Oyster Cult’s crew who returns home to his mother; and Janie Jones, about a dysfunctional band unraveling on the road. (4/20a)
