U.K. MIDWEEKS: FONTAINES D.C. HEADING FOR #1

Irish punk band Fontaines D.C. are heading toward #1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart with their second album, A Hero’s Death (Partisan). Over on singles, Billie Eilish is on track to claim her fifth U.K. Top 10 with “My Future” (Polydor).

Fontaines D.C., who hit #9 with their debut last year, are battling with fellow punk outfit Creeper. Hailing from Southampton, they are also heading for a career-best with second album, Sex, Death & the Infinite Void (Roadrunner), at #2.

Taylor Swift has the most-streamed album of the week so far with last week’s chart topper Folklore (EMI), which has dropped two places to #3 midweek.

Alanis Morissette’s Such Pretty Forks In The Road (Sony) is new at #4, while The Psychedelic Furs’ first album in 29 years, Made Of Rain (Cooking Vinyl), is #5.

A reissue of Paul McCartney’s 1997 album, Flaming Pie (UMG) is #7, and German-born British composer Max Richter is at #14 with Voices (Decca).

On the U.K.’s Official Singles midweeks, Joel Corry and MNEK’s “Head & Heart” (Asylum) is looking set for a third week at #1 with a lead of 4,500 sales.

Eilish’s “My Future” enters at #3 while a CD release of Gareth Malone’s Great British Home Chorus charity single “You Are My Sunshine” (Decca) starts out at #5. Proceeds will go to NHS Charities Together.

Songs that could reach new peaks this Friday include Harry Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar” (Columbia) at #4, “Dancing In The Moonlight” (Good Soldier) by Jubel f/Neimy at #9 and Becky Hill & Sigala’s “Heaven On My Mind” (Polydor) at #17.
