BTS WINS IFPI GLOBAL AWARD A SECOND TIME

BTS has been crowned the winner of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry’s Global Recording Artist of the Year Award, the first act to win in two consecutive years.

The award represents worldwide performance in digital and physical music formats.

In 2021 BTS had three #1s in the U.S.: “Butter,” which was released in May, “Permission to Dance” in July and the Coldplay collaboration “My Universe” in September.

The CD release of "Butter" topped the Gaon year-end charts in South Korea, marking the sixth successive year that BTS has managed to dominate. Meanwhile, the group released a Japanese-language greatest hits album, BTS, THE BEST, in Japan, topping the Oricon Year End Album Chart—the first time a non-domestic act has done so in 37 years.

The rest of the IFPI Top 10 Global Artist Chart is made up of Taylor Swift at #2, followed by Adele, Drake, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, SEVENTEEN and Olivia Rodrigo.
