MARGO KNESZ, R.I.P.

We are saddened to learn of the death of Margo Knesz, a pioneer among female radio promo execs, on Monday at the age of 84.

Over a career that began in the 1960s, Knesz held national promotion positions at Epic, RCA and MCA before becoming General Manager of Atco in 1982. She was part of the promotion team at Atlantic under Doug Morris that also included Sylvia Rhone.

She got her start as Director of National Promotion for Stereo Dimension Records, best known for Lighthouse’s “One Fine Morning,” before moving to Epic as Manager of Promotion Services. At Atlantic, she assisted Jerry Greenberg in national pop promotion. She was promoted to Director of National Pop Promotion in secondary markets in 1974.

Knesz moved to RCA as Director of National Singles Promotion in 1978, landing at MCA in National Pop Promotion before closing out her career at Atco.
