SONGWRITERS HALL ANNOUNCES INDUCTION PICKS

The members of R.E.M. and Steely Dan, Timbaland, Hillary Lindsey and Dean Pitchford are the latest inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Bill Berry and Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen and the late Walter Becker will be inducted as performing songwriters; the other honorees fall into the non-performer category.

Timbaland has written and produced hits for Michael Jackson, Madonna, Justin Timberlake and countless others. Lindsey’s credits include songs written for Little Big Town, Lady Gaga and Carrie Underwood; Pitchford’s co-writes span Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose,” Whitney Houston’s “All the Man That I Need” and Deniece Williams’ “Let’s Hear It for the Boy.”

They’ll all be honored 6/13 at the 53rd annual induction and awards gala, taking place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.

It all starts with the song and the songwriter. We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the most important songwriters of all time and that the 2024 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched the lives of billions of listeners all over the world.”

Eligibility for entry into the Songwriters Hall of Fame extends to writers with a significant commercial release of a song at least 20 years ago.
