SONY'S JOLLY GOOD NIGHT AT THE BRITs

RAYE, Jungle, Calvin Harris

Sony is celebrating a dominant night at the 2024 BRIT Awards. The company’s haul was led by a record-setting six wins for Human Re Sources artist RAYE.

The British chanteuse’s achievement—encompassing trophies for Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year (“Escapism.” f/070 Shake), Best R&B Act and Songwriter of the Year—also marks a breakout for J Erving’s Orchard-distributed indie label, which inked her in 2022.

Jungle, on Lonny Olinick-led AWAL, meanwhile, scored Group of the Year. We’re told that Lonny, in celebration, added some fine brandy to his cup of Darjeeling.

Bring Me the Horizon, SZA, Miley Cyrus

Other big Sony winners included acts from both sides of the pond: Columbia’s Calvin Harris took Best Dance Act and RCA’s Bring Me the Horizon scored Best Alternative/Rock Act, prompting much hurling of confetti in Jason Iley’s Sony U.K. camp, while gongs for TDE/RCA’s SZA (International Artist of the Year) and “Flowers” by Columbia’s Miley Cyrus (International Song) evoked cheers from the stateside contingent.

All in all, Sony claimed 10 of the 13 trophies conferred during the ceremony, with RAYE’s Songwriter win among those announced as a pre-show amuse bouche. We also note that it was a big night for two Sony Music Publishing writers, Mike Sabath—who exec-produced and co-wrote 11 songs on RAYE's album, including "Escapism."—and 070 Shake, who contributed to the latter track.

We imagine that the night’s revelry was followed by a splendid breakfast fry-up.
