BERMAN, LEE TAKE KEY ROLES AT ICLG

In the latest chapter of UMG’s major reorganization, John Janick, chairman of the newly formed Interscope Capitol Labels Group (ICLG), has announced the promotion of Steve Berman and Annie Lee to key posts in the division. Berman will serve as ICLG vice chairman, Lee as COO.

ICLG, in case you’ve misplaced your score card, encompasses Interscope Geffen A&M and Capitol Music Group.

In Berman's new post, according to the announcement, he “oversees numerous areas within ICLG and works closely with all labels… to build and enhance artists’ global profiles and the broader ICLG brand.” More to the point, he brings that Berman magic. Berm has been vice chairman of IGA since 2010; his Interscope tenure dates back to 1991, just six months after the label’s inception.

For her part, Lee will be tasked with the integration of Finance (in tandem with CFO Geoff Harris), Operations and Culture and ensuring the efficient functioning of ICLG. She's been CFO of IGA since 2019; her tenure with the company stretches back to 2006. Lee joined UMG in 2005, at which time she began ducking our calls and never looked back.

“Steve and Annie are both highly accomplished executives who've been critical to our company’s growth and success for more than two decades,” reads a statement from Janick. “They have worked closely with me in designing ICLG to benefit and enhance each individual label under our umbrella and foster an entrepreneurial spirit that will set the standard for what a modern music company should be. I congratulate Steve and Annie on their well-deserved promotions and look forward to sharing enormous success with them in the coming years.”

Berman and Lee are, of course, “excited” about the future. Here’s what they had to say:

“Every aspect of our redesign will enable us to provide optimal support for our artists and their creativity while securing the best and most innovative opportunities to help expand their global brands,” said Berman. “I’ve devoted nearly my entire career to this company and its artists, and I'm excited to continue working with John, Annie and the entire ICLG team on this next phase of our journey.”

“I'm looking forward to working with John, Berm and our entire team as we continue to build ICLG into a modern music company that is both a powerful partner to artists and their teams and a fulfilling and creative environment in which to work,” reads Lee’s quote. “We're well positioned for the future, and I’m excited for what's to come.”

The executive team then celebrated with a bracing dip in the Pacific.
